What is Smart Home Control System?

A Lens into Smart Home Automation

Much is said about the smart devices that are evolving our lives in every aspect, but it seems the mechanisms with which a smart home system is defined is yet unknown to many people. First, a smart home system is designed particularly for better energy management and more user convenience. It consists of an interrelated network of devices that work in harmony to perform human-command or automatic functions. A smart home is a convenient home setup that uses internet-connected devices to enable the remote monitoring and management of appliances and systems. Almost everything can become smart as long as it is linked to an intelligent network; from light bulbs and gates to popcorn machines and temperature sensors.

Smart home technology, also often referred to as home automation or domotics (originated from the Latin "Domus" meaning home), can be controlled via a phone app or network devices remotely as long as there is an internet connection. It is a very popular thing among the pros of a smart home system that appliances, thermostats, lighting, and other features -instead of using different devices- can be managed using one device.

What we normally notice is that the lights slowly faint as the sun starts to shine in the morning, or that the TV turns on with just a touch of the phone screen, but the actual process is much more complicated. Imagine it this way; there is a control hub where every detail about your house and devices is stored and everything is handled in relation to something else. The most important thing is that this domino of actions follows your preferences and goes to the point where you want it to go. In other words, a message, whether it be to turn on the bedroom AC when the curtain is closed, or to lower the music sound when your kid’s online class starts, moves across different devices and does multiple arrangements within a few seconds.

Another key feature of a smart home, in addition to convenience and the magical harmony among devices, is that it can be set up through wireless or hardwired systems and still be greatly cost saving in the long term. Smart homes allow homeowners to reduce electricity use and benefit from energy-related savings in lights and AC control.

Security and efficiency are other main reasons behind the increase in smart home technology use. Users can keep an eye on their property all the time and get notifications and updates on issues in their homes.

But what are the components of a smart home?

1- Smart lighting is the entry point. Many smart lighting systems work perfectly with all types of lights within the home automation package.

2- Smart thermostats and AC controllers allow users to schedule, monitor, and remotely control home temperatures. These devices also learn homeowners' behaviors and automatically adjust settings to provide users with maximum comfort and efficiency.

3- Smart speakers and A/V devices are other popular pieces of smart solutions. They are now available in a wide variety of sizes, materials, and functions and add the sound of magic to your residence.

4- Home security cameras and electrical locks will enable you to keep a watchful eye on your home, especially while you are away.

5- Safety includes smoke, fire, and leakage sensors for maintaining health and safety in your smart home. They send an alert to your smartphone—and to anyone else you authorize as a contact—if danger is detected.
